I had a prior post regarding the Christy Webber Landscapes that caused quite a bit of concern. When you attempt to show an issue or worry people get off track, so I would like to get us on track again. If Christy Webber’s workers became Union that is a good thing for them, I hope they have a decent benefits package and health insurance. As the City of Chicago continues to privatize, many workers will continue to be placed in a very dangerous position. This is the Kennedy expressway in Chicago. Workers have gotten killed far too often and laws have been strengthened to force drivers to slow down. When you were driving on Chicago expressways years ago, state workers cut the grass. Those workers cost more because they had at least two big trucks to reduce the chance of workers getting run over. Lately, Christy Webber workers are working on the expressway with one little safety cone located near the trailer. This is an absolute disgrace and the workers should be protected at all costs. Chicago Area Jobless Rate Hits 7.5 Percent
The unemployment rate in the Chicago metropolitan area jumped to 7.5 percent in July from 5.4 percent a year earlier, and the area lost 2,700 jobs, the Illinois Department of Employment Security reported Thursday.
The higher rate followed a report last week that the state’s unemployment rate in July rose to 7.3 percent from 5.1 percent.
All 12 metropolitan areas in the state reported unemployment rate increases. The highest rate of joblessness was reported in Rockford, where the rate hit 9 percent, up from 6.1 percent. That was followed by Kankakee-Bradley, where the rate jumped to 8.6 percent from 6.2 percent; and Danville, where the rate was 8.6 percent, up from 6.8 percent.
“National economic trends have now fully impacted the Illinois labor market,” IDES Director James Sledge said in a released statement. “While many areas throughout the state continue to experience stable or moderate job growth, local economies cannot provide enough opportunities to prevent increases in unemployment induced by national economic uncertainty.
The lowest unemployment rates were reported in the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island metropolitan area at 5.1 percent, up from 4.1 percent; and the Bloomington-Normal area at 5.6 percent, up from 4.1 percent.
The biggest job gains were reported in the Lake County-Kenosha region, which added 2,200 jobs; and the Peoria area, which gained 1,700.
Thanks for the great post after Christy and the handful of people that actually pay attention to your site handed you your ass. But you still come up with a “only 1 cone” article. You know what’s funny–I would venture to say that probably 99.9% of the city services and those privatized are doing their job and quite well. Case in point–if they weren’t, our city would not have risen to one of the most beautiful in the US and on Earth–hence, our consideration for the Olympics. It’s just sad, because all of your false rhetoric and what you think is “investigative reporting” gives any intelligent reader insight as to who you really are–a cry baby sitting there with your camera saying “where’s mine?!?!” Now, please post this and not censor it like you do the other posts that go against you on your site.

I could have shown the picture with guy riding the grass tractor on the shoulder right next to cars with No signs, but I am really a nice person. I save my best for last!
You fail to point out in your posting that there mulitple other safety items that are in the process of being displayed. Clearly there is an arrowboard on the back of trailer. Also, from this picture, you can see the man in the far left side of the photo is carrying a stack of traffic cones – indicating to me that you took this picture as soon the truck arrived at this location. They were JUST in the process of putting out all the cones and the ROAD WORK AHEAD traffic sign. You should really consider be more precise with the information you include with your photos.

(Response) I watched them for quite some time prior to the crew closing up shop. They did not have any safety precautions except for the one safety cone. The rest was on the truck. They should have a truck to block traffic with a bumper. Maybe we do not value the least among us?
Good one. Check out Clean Slate where they clean streets like in the 46th Ward for example, also the Back of the Yards Business Association, Logan Square, Development North, these groups hand sweep streets everywhere, probably following the thing of privatizing and those Sts and San, Hand Laborers probably will get knocked off.
Watch out for this to rise.

I would like to see the papers on all her employees, I can almost put money on it that atleast 50% of them are illegal.
Just goes to show that this blog owner is no journalist or reporter. Take a picture and then make up a story. I wonder if the quality of your work for the city is just as good?
Oh and one more point contracts have to pay prevailing rate but do not have to be unionized. To require a company to be union in orer to get a bid is illegal.
