Greg Brewer Alderman 50th Ward? Very Possible

Greg Brewer.jpg
Alderman Stone better hustle, Chicago's 50th Ward candidate for Alderman sure looks impressive. I ask all my friends in the 50th Ward including all Chicago City Workers to take a close look at Greg Brewer. I met Greg's staff at a Blogger Breakfast this morning at the Beef and Brandy Restaurant. Great idea, is that a first? Many of Chicago Top Bloggers attended and the first of it's kind event was a success. Greg is very nice and down to earth candidate, also I was very impressed by his staff, two top-gun political types. Please visit his web site, click here: http://www.gregbrewer.org The campaign phone number is (773) 559-5848. Greg would lead the 50th Ward with skill, finesse, and dignity. Remember, the 50th Ward is very diverse and the residents told me they are ready for change. Photo by Patrick McDonough.

Stone should just retire with what little dignity he has left. Greg is honest, pro-active which is a complete 180 from the behavior and back door deals Stone has embraced. As a long time 50th ward resident - we need a change for the better.

Brewer Takes Ethics Pledge
Professionalism will define Brewer’s term as 50th Ward
alderman

West Rogers Park – Cronyism, intimidation and corruption
will have no place in Greg’s Brewer’s ward office.

Brewer Tuesday unveiled an ethics pledge to the residents
of the 50th Ward and the people of Chicago. The pledge
includes vows to put professionalism before politics,
treat all residents and businesses fairly regardless of
political involvement, and award jobs and contracts based
on merit.

“We should expect ethical government as our right,” Brewer
said. “But in the 50th Ward, petty politics trumps
professionalism and ethics every time. The actions of some
on Nov. 7 just highlighted that.”

Brewer was referring to how some campaign workers for
Bernie Stone tricked and intimidated people into signing
petitions for the 33-year incumbent. The incidents were
documented in the Nov. 15 Pioneer Press News-Star.

Brewer’s ethics pledge also includes a promise to provide
city services as a right, not as a political favor. He
also pledges to treat residents with respect, eliminate
waste and hold his staff to the same high standards.

“I’ll be an open, honest alderman. People need to be able
to trust that the alderman is looking out for them, not
for a privileged few,” Brewer said. “My record, both
professionally and in the community, shows that I have the
skills and integrity to serve everyone in our community.”

Brewer’s ethic pledge is available at www.gregbrewer.org.

As a bungalow owner in the 50th, I'm so glad to see coverage of this race. The alternative candidate that I've been hearing the most buzz about is Naisy Dolar: http://naisydolar.campaignoffice.com/

there's been extensive coverage of this race, which can be found at http://www.gregbrewer.org/home/inmedia.html . you can check back there often if you are missing all the press the race is getting...

Its funny that people believe everything they read in the media. They should know by now that the media will print ANYTHING to make a paper move out the news stands! The 50th ward is prefectly fine as it is and Alderman Stone should be given an award for keeping his ward clean. Some canidates are bringing religion and mixing it with politics. They have nothing to do with each other. Alderman Stone works for the community as a whole, and does not judge people by there color or race. So if you are telling me to vote for you because you are a muslim or you are jewish, I WILL NOT. I will vote for you if you can keep the 50th ward working as it is now, and I dont see any candidate running who can! Alderman Stone you have my vote!!!

None of the challengers in the 50th Ward will keep it working as it is now. That is why they are running because things need to be done differently. Majid, you must be a precinct captian for Bernie and a keeper of the status quo.

Religion is the last issue in this campaign with so much wrong with the 50th. Bernie is taking $ money $ from developers, while Greg, Salman, Naisy and the homeowners are crying Foul.

The ward is not clean...check the alleys...spot the prostutes on Western...look at the Gang Bangers and the dope sales...what about the purse snatchers ..........The sidewalks are all broke up and the streets are a mess..

Majid, quit reading the paper and start walking / driving around the ward. You will begin to see why myself and others will be voting for "ABB"..Anybody But Bernie.

The 50th Ward is perfectly fine? That's crazy.

Ald. Stone has no plans for the 50th except to install Alana as his replacement. If that doesn't scare you, you have never dealt with Stone's daughter. She is rude, obnoxious, and abuses her Dad's power. Stone just lets it happen.

There's nothing fine about the current situation in the 50th. The only question is, how bad can it get? I'm afraid to find out.

1,573 Voters Sign Brewer Petitions for 50th Ald.
Brewer in line at 9 a.m., vows not to challenge petitions
of others

West Rogers Park – Greg Brewer, candidate for 50th Ward
alderman, filed 1,573 nominating signatures at 9 a.m. with
the Chicago Board of Elections.

Brewer filed 10 times the number of signatures necessary
to secure a spot on the Feb. 27 ballot. 152 signatures
were necessary.

Unlike other candidates, Brewer and his campaign
volunteers collected more than 70 percent of their
signatures going door to door. Although it is the most
difficult way to collect signatures, Brewer said it was
important to meet voters where they live.

“This is the type of service I’ll provide as alderman. I
won’t make people hunt me down to discuss their concerns.
I’ll come to them,” Brewer said. “Voters responded to
that. That’s why we have this incredible show of support
today.”

Brewer thanks the dozens of volunteers who circulated his
petitions in rain, snow and bitter cold.

“Without their hard work, I wouldn’t be here today. These
great people are the reason why I live in the 50th Ward,
and they’re the reason why I’m running for alderman,”
Brewer said. “They deserve an open, honest professional as
alderman.”

In an unusual move, Brewer pledged to not challenge the
nominating petitions of any other legitimate candidate who
files for a spot on the ballot. Some candidates in the
50th Ward have quietly said they will try to knock others
off the ballot.

“We will not challenge any legitimate candidate who files
for a spot on the ballot. I believe any legitimate
candidate has the right to run for office,” Brewer said.
“I trust the voters to pick the best person to be
alderman.”

Rogers Park DFA Adopts Brewer
Grassroots group will provide volunteers to Brewer
campaign

West Rogers Park – Edgewater-Rogers Park Democracy for
America members have voted unanimously to adopt Greg
Brewer’s 50th Ward aldermanic campaign.

The designation means the group will organize its members
to volunteer for Brewer. Edgewater-Rogers Park DFA has 222
members. Early in past elections, the group adopted Dan
Seals in the 10th Congressional District and Debra Shore
for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

Sandra Verthien, a group co-host, said Brewer earned the
adoption by proving he has the skills, ethics and values
to lead the 50th Ward.

“Greg supports progressive values, like using our tax
dollars to improve the public infrastructure instead of
wasting them on corruption and cronyism. Greg also
respects the democratic process, unlike his opponent,”
Verthien said. “Bernie Stone and his ilk are the rattling
relics of machine politics.”

Brewer is honored to have the group’s support.

“I’m very touched that such a dedicated group of
grassroots volunteers would support my campaign,” Brewer
said. “This is just one more indicator that a new day is
dawning in West Rogers Park.”

Edgewater-Rogers Park DFA also adopted 49th Ward Ald. Joe
Moore.

About DFA: Democracy for America finds, trains, and
supports fiscally responsible and socially progressive

It is interesting to note that Mr Brewer had a fundraiser at a loop restaurant. the Beef and Brandy on State Street. He has other fundraisers, also mostly outside the ward.
His place of employment, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. is downtown also, and it appears that most of their sources of income come from areas other than the 50th ward.

Somehow, I would prefer a candidate that had a more significant investment in the health of the 50th ward than just an interest in obtain the power that comes from running it.

I wonder, How many of these bloggers supporting him are living in the ward?

The Beef and Brandy event was a blogger breakfast. It was an event designed to speak to bloggers about the issues in the 50th. No money was raised. If you had read Michael's blog from the beginning though, you would have known that Randy.

Nice try though.

And you're right. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill doesn't do a lot of work in the 50th. Do you want the 2016 Olympics in the 50th? What about the world's tallest building? Because that is the type of work Skidmore, Owings and Merrill does. They work on large projects around the world, including the World Trade Center site.

They also do master community plans and transportation plans around the world, like the Hong Kong Waterfront and the Chicago River Master Plan. Go check it out yourself at www.som.com.

That sounds like the type of alderman I want.

I have lived in the 50th ward for most of my 46 years. There are three candidates running against Alderman Stone. Salman Aftab is in the pro-development/pro-business/screw the residents mode that Stone came from. Naisy Dolar is WAY too connected to the Daley administration for anyone's comfort. Greg Brewer truly cares about the people who live in the ward and wants to make the 50th better.

mr. aftab will win this election!

I would like to know if Greg is thinking about starting a strategic plan for the coming election.
