Kevin Joyce told Somerville that Joyce "had to give the list to his father to see if they'd be approved." Soon after, Somerville learned he would be getting the promotion.
The only problem was that when he checked the city list of people to be interviewed, he wasn't on it. He was told he needed to send in an application. A city personnel director told him, "You didn't even apply for a job you were supposed to get," Somerville recalled on the stand.
Somerville said he eventually got the job, and his two other requests were filled, too. On Wednesday, Jeremiah Joyce in an interview blasted Somerville as a liar.
