Chicago Parking Signs for the "Good Neighborhoods"

Chicago Parking Signs.jpg
Please enjoy a picture of a Chicago Parking sign. This is a permanent sign that clearly shows the parking policy in this pricey, clout and connected Chicago neighborhood. While Mayor Daley want to increase the parking fines to astronomical levels, the signs like these can help you avoid the ticket. These signs also have lights which flash red if "No Parking" is in effect. Wow, flashing lights for the Chicago Gentry. In the poor and west-side Chicago wards, the parking signs are paper attached to the trees with string. This costs taxpayers more money because Streets and Sanitation crews need to put them up and take them down. I hope Mayor Daley hides the West Side of Chicago from the Olympic Committee, they might tell Daley he has far greater problems. I think the parking signs in Chicago are discriminatory. With respect,You are missing, I believe, the bigger picture.
These signs are confusing-----confusing to the point of driving one insane.
This one is only one example, but let's look at it. Did you read it? Ok. Would if it's a 1st Tuesday and the green light is on or if there is no light on? Duz dat mean Wichie says it's ok for this subject to park and go visit the subject's grandmother? The sign doesn't say. When you got to contest, Daley's mafia fascists tell you to pay your $300.00 or whatever it is, and get lost.

This is by design, by devilish obfuscation to demoralize the masses so he can remain illegally in charge of a people. It is BY DESIGN.

The sign pictured reads as follows:

STREET CLEANING

1st TUESDAY OF THE MONTH

WHEN LIGHT IS FLASHING
RED - NO PARKING

GREEN - OR NO LIGHT
PARKING PERMITTED

TOW ZONE

The sequence determines the meaning:

There is NO PARKING on the 1st TUESDAY of each MONTH

and

If and WHEN the LIGHT IS FLASHING

then

If the light is flashing RED

then

there is NO PARKING

and

If the light is flashing GREEN or there is NO LIGHT FLASHING

then PARKING is PERMITTED

Therefore:

If the day is the 1st Tuesday of any given month, then, (to facilitate the cleaning of the street), parking is illegal, ONLY WHEN the RED LIGHT IS FLASHING and WHEN the GREEN LIGHT IS FLASHING or NO LIGHT IS FLASHING, then parking is legally permitted, even if the day is the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Thus, on this particular street, on the side or sides of the street where this sign is posted, from the intersection of the nearest cross street to the nearest intersection of the nearest cross street, parking is prohibited ONLY on the 1st Tuesday of the month AND only when the RED LIGHT IS FLASHING.

Parking is no longer prohibited, even on the 1st Tuesday of the month, when the GREEN LIGHT IS FLASHING or if there is NO LIGHT FLASHING.

Therefore, on streets where these signs are posted, the ONLY period of time when parking is prohibited, (for street cleaning purposes), is: On the 1st Tuesday of the month AND WHEN the RED LIGHT IS FLASHING.

The areas where paper NO PARKING signs are hung prohibit parking for a set period of time, (8am to 4pm, I believe), regardless of when the street has been cleaned, resulting in those areas where the street has been cleaned during the morning hours remaining a no parking zone into the afternoon.

These new signs permit the no parking zone to be in effect only as long as is needed to facilitate the cleaning of the street.

The lights and the disarming box in the sweepers have no name on them. Look like the are made in someones house

That is an interesting note, Anonymous. During my aldermanic campaign I'd designed a very similar light system, but it would begin flashing very slowly three days before street cleaning and more rapidly as the day approached, so as to remind people. Miraculously, only a few months later, this pilot appeared. They appear to have taken my idea, and in any case they implemented it wrong.

Wrong, temporary paper signs are not only used in the poor and west side neighborhoods.
