Chicago Department of Water Management shows some improvement

City of Chicago Employee victim of Propane Explosion The week got off to a great start when many City of Chicago Department of Water Management employees reported back into the yards to swipe in and swipe out with hand imaging. Many well connected employees were calling the finance department and requesting a bypass of the hand swiping machines and use the kronos system that only requires a swipe with an I.D. This swipe system has cost the Chicago Taxpayers billions of dollars over the years. One of the employees said "things will go back pretty soon". I know this pattern has happened many times; millions in consulting fees and management contract scams have done nothing to stop this craziness. In the past many non-connected employees were punished and some terminated for this exact infraction. A second gold star for the Department, I have noticed a typed and permanent looking overtime list for the Plumbers and Caulkers for the Department of Water Management. It is a great start to protecting the fraud that continues in the department. If the Chicago Plumber's Union got off their fat ass and did what they were paid to do, the Plumbers and Caulkers would get a proper list like the Laborers Union. Making progress is like pulling teeth in the Water Department. Some employees continue to report overtime discrepancies despite the Shakman Decree. Just yesterday, I was involved in a propane explosion that put me into a Chicago Fire Department Ambulance and then Resurrection Hospital emergency room. I am grateful to everyone for their professionalism, accidents are no fun. My face and hands are burned and I lost all much facial hair. I lost one half an inch of hair off my forehead, but it should all grow back. Ouch. I am glad steps are being taken to get face shields and proper safety items for this dangerous work. Thank to all my fellow Plumbers and Caulkers for your kind words and safety suggestions. I have pictures I am posting so remember to request safety items and live!

With half an inch of hairline missing, I still got a full head of hair.

Hey Patrick, First, Glad your ok !!! it could of been worse, there is no training for employees in the water dept, I have seen so many possible injuries, I would even call then DANGEROUS, Let me explain what I am talking about here. The city of Chicago in my opinion, doesn't care about safty at all, lets look at the parking lot full of holes and pot holes, when the driver hits that hole you get tossed around in the cab, your knees get banged up, but the most important thing is our BACKS, the Spine gets throw out of whack, and if you complain to the boss (my Opinion) the boss sometimes will say "get tuff" I think North district should get those pot holes filled in.
About safty again, can you imagine this very dangerous situation I see, You got a pickup truck filled with at least 15 PROPANE TANKS and these tanks are held together with a 2 x 4 nailed very lightly into the side rail, I seen this and this 2 x 4 is not even holding nothing, so if that driver/laborer (they have no haz mat endorsement) gets into an accident, those tanks are going to fly off the truck and BLOW UP, and it might kill someone. I have seen an investagator truck carrying a Propane tank with no support, the tank rolls around the back of the truck, slaming into the side walls, those tanks need to be secured !!!!!!you mention to the gooffy Plumber (not you Patrick)that it is very unsafe, the Plumber in charge will say "I'll get you kicked off the truck if you say anything to anybody" the whole crew is in a very bad situation when you got a "gooffy plumber" in my opinion Then there is no labels stating the fact that the truck is carrying a dangerous load of PROPANE!! then there are no Fire extingishers on some of the trucks, and the ones that do have those extingishers are out of date, they need to be recharged every year. Check the tags that are on those extingishers. Then are the drivers/laborers/plumbers/calkers trained to put out a flamable substance? NO.
Talking about Bigger Propane takes, what about the Hydrant trucks, they carry much bigger tanks about a 5 foot tall tank (they have 2 tanks) no labeling, no notification to the public about a dangerous situation at ALL.
Patrick these are some very serious issues we have right now. The city was told about these serious violations, and they city does NOTHING about these concerns. When someone gets hurt badly the city will say "okay lets settle with this guy" so he doesn't sue the city of chicago. These people (management) that do nothing should be held accountable for not doing anything about our safty. Maybe someone should call OSHA???????????? Patrick you are very very lucky you are alive, this propane tanks could of exploded and releashed shards of metal into your face and eyes, some of those welds are only face welds, meaning that they put two pieces of the tank together and they weld them on the outside of the tank, those welds could of broke loose, and sent those pieces flying towards you and your crew. You Patrick my friend should go to CHURCH, get down on your knees and thank the LORD above for protecting you in this matter. And SUE the F**k out of the city, because they have the knowledge of this very bad accident.

Bruce, for the record:

safety..not safty
tough..not tuff
goofy..not gooffy
tanks..not takes

i guess MTD's dont take grammer in school

You got burned again by the city. Well at least this time you can enjoy the sponge baths by those pretty nurses.

HI PAT
THANK GOD YOU ARE STILL WITH US.THIS IS AN ON GOING THING AND A DANGEROUS ONE.NO DISPLAYED CARDS ARE ON THE TRUCKS TO WARN THE PUBLIC OF THE DANGER.BUT MANAGEMENT DRIVES AROUND LOOKING FOR WORKERS WHO HAVE NO SAFETY VEST ON AND WRITE THEM UP.BUT DRIVE AROUND WITH PROPANE TANKS IS OK.IT SHOWS PEOPLE ARE BEING PICKED TO WATCH OVER US AND DON'T KNOW ONE THING ABOUT SAFETY THEY TALK A GOOD STORY BUT THEY KNOW JACKSHIT.THE STATE OF ILLINOIS POLICE SHOULD BE NOTIFY SO THEY CAN INPOUND THE VEHICLES.

Hope your OK Pat get well soon my friend (Response) Thanks you. Lets get together soon. Please say hello to our friends.

I may not know Grammer, but I know how to sue!!!!!

Leave your name on here so we all know who you might be? Or I am sorry your hiding again. huh?

PAT FEEL BETTER SOON.WE NEED YOU ON THE FRONT LINE. I HOPE YOU OWN THE CITY AFTER THIS LAW SUIT. BEST OF LUCK ON A SPEEDY RECOVERY. (Response) You are a very wise guy.

Ever think that Daley does indeed work in strange ways? Isn't a friend of his the restaurant bomber? Just asking.

Bruce, what are you gonna sue this guy for?? If he works for the city he is probally broke with all the days off without pay and he is right, you should always proofread what you type, fyi sometimes it looks like you are an eastern european typing the way they speak when they know a limited amount of English, I'm just sayin

Drag out your hospital stay cause chances are you are never gonna be able to have young nurses sponge bathe you again. wink wink, nod nod.

Bruce, see I am guilty also, I misspelled probably

Take care of yourself and get well soon Pat. Make certain that you follow up with professional medical care (preferably with your chosen provider).

Loyola Hospital in Maywood has the best burn treatment center in the region. The effective treatment that I received from them prevented permanent scarring to my legs after getting second degree burns (non-job related).

My best wishes for your speedy recovery.

Thanks Chuck: I guess Bruce took his City job so he can spend his career suing the City. That's pretty sad. I'm sure deep down he's a hard worker.

Hey Patrick, This is not the forum I want to talk about myself, but as some of my co-workers already know about me, I am going to give some of you what I am all about, when I was hired I was a very hard worker, learning things, how things work, But in my career with the city I have seen much corruption, I am going to use the word allegedly in my story to protect the innocent. But I have seen this foreman abuse other co-workers, I have seen bribes being paid, it was in a deposition that this was stated in. The man that stated this in his dep. was setup and was fired, within a week, another man was threatened with death if he testified in a deposition for me, that foreman was charged with obstruction of justice, but as the city intervenes and in my opinion my attorney was Bribed to let this case against that foreman slip away. In my opinion that foreman would of have done at least 10 years in federal prison for tampering with a federal witness! I have seen other corruptions within the city, I have witness's people leave job sites, I have seen people swipe people in and out, I have seen people using city vehicles for personal errands, I have seen people using city vehicles to transport grocery store items to their home, I have seen prostitutes in a city trailer at streets and san. This is all in depositions!!that were done a few years back. I have seen money being exchanged for co-workers to "be put on overtime sheets" while they were at home "resting"? I have seen drunken laborers on crews, in streets and sans.
I have seen a foreman grab a workers arm and twisted it as to break this guys arm, all of this was covered up. I have seen people getting more overtime than others, the overtime list was twisted and moved about so certain people would get more overtime than others, I know how they "play with the overtime lists" and this will come out soon enough. I have seen people going home using city vehicles, in fact one person was caught by the IG and was recommended suspension, but this guy called his "clout" and this was only a warning to this person. But you know what, these people that think they are getting away with something are wrong, they think no one is watching, what do you think is going to happen to the people who commit corruption, when these "friends" have to go to court and testify for you, do you think these friends are going to lie to save you? Hell no, Would they go to jail for you? (perjury) I like to say this to all that have committed corruption, is it worth it, to go to jail? is it ego? maybe some one could explain to me why people commit corruption. In closing, yes I have filed a lot of lawsuits, some I won, some I lost. But when you lose. You get experienced as to what the law is, and how it applies, I have learned allot about lawsuits!!!! I am a very knowledgeable person Now! I am going to help co-workers file lawsuits, and stay behind the scenes, until I am needed to help in these lawsuits. I am not a bitter city worker, I just do not like to see here are a few, discrimination's, harassment, intimidation's, and the famous "UNWRITTEN RULES" that the higher management people use. Its all in a deposition that the city took in my case. Most everyone calls me a rat and a few other creature of the night, but these people that call me that maybe they are so deep in corruption, but ..........

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy
