Chicago's St. Patrick's Day Queen Contest

Today at Journeyman Plumber’s Local 130 the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Queen was chosen. On of the finalists was my daughter Sarah McDonough. One of the other contestants was with the U.S. Attorney’s office. After announcing she was with the U.S. States Attorney, you could hear a pin drop. Bob Ryan joked “maybe we should keep the mike further away”. Ever get the feeling he was not joking. Many of the contestants were much older, and I am proud of my daughter that was # 6. 1. I would have loved to have seen the look on those faces when they realized someone from the US Attorney’s office was a contestant! Some of those Daley-loving SOBs probably aged ten years in a minute!

Best wishes to you and to your daughter. Perhaps she will win next year (or the first year after Daley gets nailed by the feds).

  2. By the way Pat, you and the rest of the Irish (and Irish wannabes) in Chicago might be interested in seeing what Ireland’s new St. Patrick’s Day 2007 looks like. All you have to do is go over to the Virtual Stamp Club website (www.virtualstampclub.com) and then click on the Message Board. From there go to the Other Countries Folder and then click on Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Day 2007 Stamp. I hope everyone enjoys it (and most of the other reports about new stamps from around the world, which I can vouch are very well-written, because I wrote most of them.

    Best wishes to all,
    RANDALL SHERMAN
